Sango

Oshun has been soaring into the stratosphere with their recent array of music, visuals and fashion creating art with a message, embedding culture and invoking thought into their listeners touching on modern day topics while connecting them to  divine/ancient law. The title of their latest single is called “Sango” (God of Thunder) which is the equal and opposite to Oshun, a masculine energy for balancing the female energy “Oshun”. This all may seem a bit mythological but Oshun connects this african myth/folktale into modern day relationships we face today. Confirming that nothing is new under the sun and how we are all one whether we realized it or not.  As always they depict beautiful cultured art pushing the envelop with visuals and fashion summoning vibes from the ancestors. Did you know Africa Looked like this?

Today’s post comes from Nigeria’s superstar artist Davido as he linked up with flourishing 19 year old South African rapper Nasty C on “Coolest Kid In Africa” a trap-influenced track doused with culture. The two artist feed off each others energy, igniting a burst of energy to the listeners that resonates long after the song is over. The representation of the thriving culture in Africa is necessary for American’s to see, being blinded by media for years with false representation of the motherland. Forced to believe through saturated imagery that Africa was a place of poverty and famine, a desolate land that was uninhabitable. Now through the Internet we are able to see how rich the land is and how similar the people are to our culture. Understanding that we are in separate locations but our spirits are the same. No Presidents

“Land of the Free, Home of the Brave” still in the year 2016, we are taught the illusion that our country ,The United States of America, is a perfect harmonious society. In reality, we suffer from many underlying societal flaws and fallacies. They are plaguing the people and pretending to provide salvation and false hope, implementing their govern laws and social structures to keep a hierarchy of power through control, creating a domino effect that’s generational afflicting poverty, mental instability and illness, failed education systems, manipulated penial institutions and poor health care. In result, this also creates a different kind of breed; one whom needs no assistance from the long arm that oppresses its people. Today we have such a word warrior from Memphis Tennessee, Jessi Jumanji, and she delivers food for thought with her debut single “No Presidents”. A very time sensitive song shedding light on topics such as the presidential election as well as the humane injustices haunting the Sam Dubose Trial in the Greater Cincinnati Area. Encouraging listeners to govern themselves no matter who’s in office, to take responsibility of their community by resurrecting self-sufficient business, and a nation of thinker’s who look within for leadership and stability. Eliminating a political system and government that promises to fix the same problems every four years. Forcing Jessi to raise the question do we really need a President to lead us? If the same problems have been trickled down since the birth of this nation, then why do we continue putting people in office who don’t deliver results? The definition of insanity is when you continue to do the same thing and expect different results; so, as a nation are we all just insane?

‘Rise Up’

Toronto-based Soul/Pop artist Liz Loughrey drops an inspiring visual for her new single ‘Rise Up’. With over 2 million views on her Youtube channel, Loughrey has managed to create a devoted and growing fanbase by winning their hearts with her soulful sound blended with uplifting lyrics. Greatly influenced by Etta James and Sade, Loughrey is a genuinely old soul who creates a brand of pop that speaks to the past and signals a bright future.

Written and produced in Miami by Liz Loughrey, Adrian X (The Weeknd, Drake, Kylie Minogue) and Supa Dups (Drake, Party Next Door, Mary J Blige) Rise Up! is a catchy and refreshing song which stands for positive change. It is a call to action that says it’s time to stop living a life of complacency or in the words of the song, it’s time for us to ‘take less and give a little more’. Loughrey adds ‘Rise Up! is more than a song, it’s a movement. The #RiseUpMovement is all about telling the stories of people who are positively impacting the world and encouraging people of all ages and walks of life to Rise Up in their communities. We turn on the news and are constantly bombarded with negativity and so it’s easy to feel powerless, but the #RiseUpMovement is spreading the message that we can do amazing things when we work together.. when we make LOVE our theme, and PEACE our goal’.

With that objective in mind, Liz Loughrey has created the Rise Up Workshops. She is currently visiting schools across the country to encourage youth to think outside the box and start making their own positive impact on their community. The stories collected throughout her workshops will be shared on her website. Anyone can take part in the movement by submitting their own story on Social Media using the #RiseUpMovement hashtag.

Rise Up! is the debut single taken from her upcoming EP which is set to be released sometime next year.
