Did you know Africa Looked like this?

Today’s post comes from Nigeria’s superstar artist Davido as he linked up with flourishing 19 year old South African rapper Nasty C on “Coolest Kid In Africa” a trap-influenced track doused with culture. The two artist feed off each others energy, igniting a burst of energy to the listeners that resonates long after the song is over. The representation of the thriving culture in Africa is necessary for American’s to see, being blinded by media for years with false representation of the motherland. Forced to believe through saturated imagery that Africa was a place of poverty and famine, a desolate land that was uninhabitable. Now through the Internet we are able to see how rich the land is and how similar the people are to our culture. Understanding that we are in separate locations but our spirits are the same. Land of The G’s

Big ups to the young guru Vince Ash as he blesses our page with his latest single “Land of the G’s”. This single reminds you of the golden era of hip hop with sampled boom bap instrumentals accompanied with metaphorical lyrics and a militant cadence. Showing the reality and living conditions of most poverty stricken neighborhoods, using his visuals and words to serve as a reflection of the struggle. Capturing everyday life while questioning why so many neighborhoods suffer from the same problems. Invoking thought by showing the desolation and abandonees of the streets as well as lack of nutrition with limited options of fast food and liquor stores, but Ash gives a solution as well. He encourages listeners to keep their head up and remain focused amidst the bullshit, search for knowledge and practice self-love to make it in the “Land of the G’s”. The Reach

Although California has been in a recent drought there has been no shortage of good music from The Golden State, which is evident on the up-and-coming artist Boogie’s 2015 mixtape The Reach. Growing up in the gang-infested culture that traps so many fellow Compton youth Boogie uses The Reach to give his perspective of the strife and struggles he’s witnessed in his lifetime. This lyrical assassin put his skills on display from the intro, having no features from any other rappers but still managing to keep the listeners engaged on every song. The thing that stands out most about the project is Boogie’s lack of fear allowing the listener into his world, whether he is speaking on his family, his environment, or getting shot and bouncing back better than ever. This thought provoking mixtape can be seen as a sign of inspiration for those who are currently where Boogie has been, showing them that it is possible to make it over your obstacles. Be expecting big things in 2016 from Boogie as he has recently signed a deal with Interscope Records.
