THE RISE AND FALL OF A KING

Decline is something inevitable for every player in any sport, they peak and start to decline. LeBron James is no different and this has led many to wonder if King James still holds the throne for best player in the league. Regardless who you ask, LeBron James has been one of the best players in the league for the past 8 years. Accumulating 4 MVPs, 2 NBA titles, 2 NBA Finals MVPs and All-star selection every year. Getting the job done and efficiently with an offensive dominance unparalleled to anyone else in the league since Oscar Robinson or Wilt Chamberlain. Logging heavy minutes in his career the 31 year old has a lot of wear and tear to his body. When you consider he’s been playing heavy minutes since he was a rookie out of high school along with lots of postseason minutes and lets not forget the Olympics, needless to say the average athlete would be drained. Looking at the decline in his numbers since the 2013 season LeBron still produces some of the leagues best and most consistent stats but the decline is there. Which brings us to the big question- is LeBron still the undeniable best player in the league? Depending on whom you ask will dictate different answers. The die-hard fans wont reason with you, but if you ask others there are a lot of people who hold a different stance on the best player in the league. Some people think Stephen Curry is the best player in the league, others Kevin Durant or Westbrook, times change and so do players. Steph is the greatest shooter ever and is scoring at an efficiency never before seen, and at the very least, there are guys in the league breathing down his neck for that title. The point Im trying to make is, LeBron is just going through what every player goes through in his or her career and that decline is inevitable. LeBron is still really good, but is he the best, is he what he used to be? Maybe he is maybe he isn’t, and that’s the beauty, you can make a case that he is, but you can also make an equal case for the new talent. All in all, LeBron is still a fantastic player who should not be taken for granted, even if hes becoming yesterdays news in some folks mind.
