Gypsy

The talented young Chicago rapper Noname Gypsy has unveiled a new single featuring SPZRKT titled “All I Need.” The song is coming from her upcoming project, Telefone planning to release later this year. Noname Gypsy probably sounds familiar if you’ve listened to any of Chance the Rappers releases from the past few years. The Chicago native keeps it pretty low key, but her unique voice and rhyming ability make her immediately recognizable on the track. SPZRKT contributes with a soulful hook that gels perfectly with the remarkably stealthy beat produced by a trio of Chicago producers Saba, THEM PEOPLE and Phoelix. Noname Gypsy casually murders the track, rapping about her personal qualities and how people try to change her into something else. Listen to “All I need” below and as always…

Anderson .Paak| Malibu

“Music is not music without soul” and the 29 year old Oakland native Anderson .Paak is the definition of soul. Following his debut album Venice .Paak delivers yet another masterpiece with Malibu. The 16-track project is full of energy thanks to his funky beats, witty wordplay, and a charisma that the music industry has been lacking for a while now. You definitely can see the fruits of his labor from Dr. Dre’s Grammy nominated Compton album as he scored features from BJ The Chicago Kid, Rhapsody, and hip-hop legend Talib Kweli to name a few. .Paak shows his versatility as an artist as well as he not only sings but displays his rapping ability. The album doesn’t just sound good though, his music has a message highlighting the real life situations and perspectives many artists of his stature seem to either conveniently forget or consciously neglect for financial gain. .Paak is gearing up for a huge 2016 with his band The FREE NATIONALS as they are set to tour Europe in February and to perform at Coachella this upcoming April. Malibu is available for purchase on iTunes and Google Play.

Van Gogh!

Van-gogh!

We all like artist for different reasons. Some listen for style and delivery, others for punchlines and hooks, but seldom do you run across a talent who has the whole package. Fresco Van Gogh, a native from Brooklyn New York, is spreading his wings in the Atlanta scene with his new project coming out first quarter this year called Brooklyn, GA. Van Gogh established a solid buzz in 2015 but is looking to make a splash in the industry this year. With a heavy 808 sounds accompanied with vigilant lyrics Van Gogh creates a perfect blend of East Coast gritty rap with a Down South “boomtrap” production, making it easy to see why this album will be a recipe for success. Fresco brings substance and content with thought provoking songs like “Stalin Freestyle” where he encourages you to stop staling in life and get out and get it, and “UNDRFTD” a single where he lets it be known he is not looking for any hand-outs  understanding his potential and knowing his future is in his handsChoosing the name Van Gogh automatically raises the bar of expectations and Fresco surely meets those expectations. Using his words to paint a picture for the listener and great production as his canvas when you hear Van Gogh’s music you can’t help to compare his music to a masterpiece.

The Reach

Although California has been in a recent drought there has been no shortage of good music from The Golden State, which is evident on the up-and-coming artist Boogie’s 2015 mixtape The Reach. Growing up in the gang-infested culture that traps so many fellow Compton youth Boogie uses The Reach to give his perspective of the strife and struggles he’s witnessed in his lifetime. This lyrical assassin put his skills on display from the intro, having no features from any other rappers but still managing to keep the listeners engaged on every song. The thing that stands out most about the project is Boogie’s lack of fear allowing the listener into his world, whether he is speaking on his family, his environment, or getting shot and bouncing back better than ever. This thought provoking mixtape can be seen as a sign of inspiration for those who are currently where Boogie has been, showing them that it is possible to make it over your obstacles. Be expecting big things in 2016 from Boogie as he has recently signed a deal with Interscope Records.
