(May 3, 2016) Shakur, a political activist and member of the Black Nationalist group and Black Panther Party, has been an active presence in our nations fight for equality. In 1969 she was arrested for conspiracy in New York, she was accused of plotting to bomb buildings and landmarks, she was later acquitted in 1971 and gave birth to Tupac the month after. Afeni was also the subject in Tupac’s famous song “Dear Mama” which was released in 1995. The single accumulated much success by going platinum and touched the hearts of millions who could relate. She also is credited for being the moderator of Tupac’s estate since his death in 1996, as well as establishing the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation, which supports art programs for children. Afeni Shakur was a voice for the voiceless, a human activist for the less fortunate and her presence will be missed. We personally want to thank her for all of her efforts and endeavors while living and continue to carry on her message. Rest in Power Afeni Shakur!
