Space Invadaz

Hip-Hop and New Age spirituality may seem like an odd combination, but for the Space Invadaz, rap and the quest for enlightenment go together like Yin and Yang. The Cincinnati, Ohio duo consist of the seasoned vet Donte the GR8 and talented Buggs tha Rocka, two forward-thinking lyricist creating timeless music. The two indigo’s released their debut project titled ‘Contact’ earlier this year, and the philosophical message is golden. Speaking on social injustices and current events as well as topics on corrupted occults and government. All while exploring the concept of opposites: higher and lower self, body and mind, confusion and clarity, peace and war. The first half of ‘Contact’ is the lighter side of the record: mellow in mood and cerebral in subject matter, avoiding empty platitudes by getting autobiographical and letting us know that their own paths to self-discovery and positivity weren’t necessarily straight and narrow. Which ties into the second half, a darker more aggressive tone on the album in which they make clear that they are products of the Cincinnati streets that they were raised in and while their heads are in the clouds they are still very much rooted in the real world. Ultimately Space Invadaz captures balance in their sound by mixing droning bass lines and triplet hi-hats with calm melodic spaciness. Creating music you can relate to as well as turn up. Their high energy tracks are complemented with brash attitude and intricate flows that takes you back to the golden-era of hip hop. Preacher’s $on

YGTUT is a rap artist hailing from Chattanooga, TN.  His mixtape Preacher’s $on is one any rap fanatic should willfully lend an ear to.  The content of his music can be described as the intersection of the streets and the pulpit.  Not to be meant that he preaches at the listener but more so just him being a preacher’s son he obviously has religious influence in his music, but that is only one aspect of it.  Although his father is a preacher, he still finds himself in situations that are street influenced.  YGTUT finds a way to give the listener a good balance of the two very different worlds.  On his record Hangin’ he says, “Niggas act like because yo pop a preacher, they supposed to hold you up to this certain standard, like you perfect.  Fuck nah!  But if you don’t know anything else, know that I’m about prosperity.  A person can come from a dark situation and turn into light.  Let’s get rich, invest money into our black communities.”  So although his music has a street influence there is also influence stemming from a forward thinking and hopeful outlook for not only his future but black people as a whole.  One can even find inspiration while listening to the mixtape.  On “Highs & Lows” he says:  “Get you some ambitions, keep on sitting like a lazy hoe, wishing on them visions, when the fuck is you gone chase em though?”  Overall the project is solid and touches on a broad yet overlapping range of topics.  The content isn’t the only thing that is noteworthy, the production is flawless from beginning to end.  There are mixtapes that have a solid 4 or 5 tracks and the rest are throw away tracks but this mixtape is one where you won’t skip a single track from beginning to end. Flower Child

I often compare surfing the web to exploring outer space, there are so many unknown gems that are  waiting to be discovered. Today I was blessed to run across a very talented artist/poet Hippie Snook who has released a project called “#teddybearinhandcuffs: Relapse”. This free spirited flower girl creates her own universe with positive energies and enlightening lyrics. Using her voice as a weapon to speak on social injustices of today, as well as providing a different perspective of life. Sonically she embodies a new wave full of intergalactic sounds with a soulful undertone. Creating a new age hippie sound for indigo’s looking for that open minded sound. With an over saturated industry trying to be like one another, its refreshing to hear an artist whom prides themselves in originality and being unique. All hippies new and old make sure you stream this album below and as always…
