Preacher’s $on

YGTUT is a rap artist hailing from Chattanooga, TN.  His mixtape Preacher’s $on is one any rap fanatic should willfully lend an ear to.  The content of his music can be described as the intersection of the streets and the pulpit.  Not to be meant that he preaches at the listener but more so just him being a preacher’s son he obviously has religious influence in his music, but that is only one aspect of it.  Although his father is a preacher, he still finds himself in situations that are street influenced.  YGTUT finds a way to give the listener a good balance of the two very different worlds.  On his record Hangin’ he says, “Niggas act like because yo pop a preacher, they supposed to hold you up to this certain standard, like you perfect.  Fuck nah!  But if you don’t know anything else, know that I’m about prosperity.  A person can come from a dark situation and turn into light.  Let’s get rich, invest money into our black communities.”  So although his music has a street influence there is also influence stemming from a forward thinking and hopeful outlook for not only his future but black people as a whole.  One can even find inspiration while listening to the mixtape.  On “Highs & Lows” he says:  “Get you some ambitions, keep on sitting like a lazy hoe, wishing on them visions, when the fuck is you gone chase em though?”  Overall the project is solid and touches on a broad yet overlapping range of topics.  The content isn’t the only thing that is noteworthy, the production is flawless from beginning to end.  There are mixtapes that have a solid 4 or 5 tracks and the rest are throw away tracks but this mixtape is one where you won’t skip a single track from beginning to end. Run!

The London-based Tanzanian artist Tiggs Da Author releases his latest uplifting energetic single “Run” featuring the magical Lady Leshurr. The 25 year old poet, rapper, singer, songwriter and producer is inspired by obscure 60s narrative film, East African Jazz and Motown. His resulting sound is very rare to say the least. In his latest track “Run” Tiggs explains escaping life’s troubles with a distinctively reminiscent style of a modern day Ray Charles. Encouraging listeners not to let life’s dramas bring you down and sometimes it’s better to just run! Tiggs is accompanied by the lovely Lady Leshurr who adds a warm vibe that makes you want to dance and sing along instantly. Already making headway this track appeared on Fifa ’16 and ITV’s 2015 Rugby World Cup trailer.  Shot in South Africa this video accents the catchy lighthearted lyrics perfectly with shots of people hanging out of cars while gusheshe drifting (a popular phrase in South African culture), dope breakdancing and choreographed dancers running throughout the fun kinetic clip. Check out the video below and as always…
