LWTGG

Today’s post comes from a unique individual named Oliver Francis whom if judged by his cover might be mistaken for a pop star instead of a rapper, but honestly after hearing “LWTGG” I recant my statement. Oliver spills his heart to the listener with lyrics about deep depression and suicidal thoughts, becoming transparent and opening up to a vulnerable subject. Filling every verse with emotion and pain Oliver touches the heart with this single as well as break stereotypes. Peep “LWTGG’ below and as always…

LINK UP

When you hear “link up” by Anderson Paak and Knxwledge one can’t help but think of this R&B jam as a funky version of elevator music. “Link up” takes the funk template pioneered by musical genius groups like Parliament, Funkadelic, The Ohio Players and the Gap Band and creates their own sound. Anderson Paak’s scratchy, mannered soul vocals is showcased effectively throughout the song and Knxwledge’s production connects a sequence of choral backing with heavy-foot, drum-bass thump to form an adhesive backdrop for Paak’s  antics. Gypsy

The talented young Chicago rapper Noname Gypsy has unveiled a new single featuring SPZRKT titled “All I Need.” The song is coming from her upcoming project, Telefone planning to release later this year. Noname Gypsy probably sounds familiar if you’ve listened to any of Chance the Rappers releases from the past few years. The Chicago native keeps it pretty low key, but her unique voice and rhyming ability make her immediately recognizable on the track. SPZRKT contributes with a soulful hook that gels perfectly with the remarkably stealthy beat produced by a trio of Chicago producers Saba, THEM PEOPLE and Phoelix. Noname Gypsy casually murders the track, rapping about her personal qualities and how people try to change her into something else. Listen to “All I need” below and as always…
