B.A.S.I.C

Eric Williams II better known by his stage name B.A.S.I.C. (an acronym for Be About Success In Controversy) is an up and coming American hip-hop artist with much promise. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii and raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia, the Aspire To Inspire Music Group representative came out of the shadows when he made it to the final round of Norfolk radio station’s 103 Jamz Fest in the summer of 2012. Since then he has been in the studio working hard and hitting the scene, especially after the release of his project in March 2013 titled “XXV (25)” collage of lyrics that express feelings, stories, and lessons learned from his journey as a 25 year old man in Virginia. Shortly after its release, B.A.S.I.C. won Hip Hop Artist Of The Year, as well as winning the Mixtape Of The Year Award sponsored by DS Magazine. While constantly connecting with people via social media on a personal level to organically build his fan base, B.A.S.I.C. has performed countless times all over within his hometown and has also gained notoriety by performing in North Carolina, New York and Connecticut. In November of 2014, he released a self-produced and personal song called ‘Ups & Downs,’ the first single from his upcoming album “E,” that received air play on 103 Jamz and substantial traffic on various blogs. With claims of this particular album being his most personal and reflecting body of work, B.A.S.I.C. is hedging forward in showcasing his talents and abilities as a staple in Virginia’s hip hop culture, while pursuing and reaching the globe over. The Process

I don’t know what the weather’s like for you, but Liz Lubega’s new EP “The Process” is the perfect harmonic background for the warm season we are approaching. I would characterize the sound and melody Liz captures as romantic and soothing, like scented candles burning in a dim room with the bath water running. Lubega’s voice provides comfort, the kind of comfort you receive in your house reading a book with your nose buried in your favorite tea or coffee. Sonically summoning the soulful sounds of early 90’s R&B, comparable to the late Whitney Houston, who is one of Lebega’s many influences as well as incorporating her gospel upbringing and mixing it with her current bluesy blissful vocals creating her own unique sound. The Process is only thirteen minutes long, which is perfect for those who want to take a short break from reality and relax in a peaceful environment, just like the earthy setting on the EP’s cover. Take a load off of your busy schedule and allow yourself to be taken away by positivity below and as always…

Flower Child

I often compare surfing the web to exploring outer space, there are so many unknown gems that are  waiting to be discovered. Today I was blessed to run across a very talented artist/poet Hippie Snook who has released a project called “#teddybearinhandcuffs: Relapse”. This free spirited flower girl creates her own universe with positive energies and enlightening lyrics. Using her voice as a weapon to speak on social injustices of today, as well as providing a different perspective of life. Sonically she embodies a new wave full of intergalactic sounds with a soulful undertone. Creating a new age hippie sound for indigo’s looking for that open minded sound. With an over saturated industry trying to be like one another, its refreshing to hear an artist whom prides themselves in originality and being unique. All hippies new and old make sure you stream this album below and as always…

It Happened in Flatbush

The Underachievers have been doing their thing for the past few years, creating 5th dimensional music to enlighten listeners while speaking about current events and social injustices with a tasteful delivery. This dynamic duo achieves the goal of creating conscious music with substance while staying turnt. Feeding medicine through candy, they allow listeners to enjoy heavy 808s and trap sounds while they deliver political messages. Yesterday they continue the movement with their newest project titled “It happened in Flatbush” this 10 track project can be streamed in its entirety below. “It Happened in Flatbush” serves as the duo’s follow-up to their sophomore album Evermore which dropped in September. D’Artiste

Often times music producers get the least credit for helping create great music, but in actuality they are the reason most magic happen. Many hear Willow and Jaden Smith sound and attribute them for creating a new wave of frequencies and style. While their uniqueness needs not be overlooked neither should the production work of the young guru Daniel D’artise. The California native has generated much of the two superstar’s tracks by blending beautiful ambient sounds with abstract drum patterns creating a futuristic wave. Taking you thru a psychological mind floss of vibrant sounds, while stimulating balance with his selection of chords and melancholy feels. Below is a beat/mix-tape of his latest production placements in the industry, I highly recommend you take the time and check this entire tape out.

East Coast Ain’t Dead

Illanoise releases his very impressive album titled “East Coast Ain’t Dead”, a deep street knowledge driven album speaking on real life situations. His lyrical output is exceptionally original along with his cadence and polished delivery. This 21 track album may seem intimidating but Illnoise has accepted the challenge and holds his own on every track. His impressive talent stands out in an over-saturated game, placing him on a different level. Illnoise tracks shines light on the negative ways people are taking advantage of others, the problems of our country and relatable stories dealing with relationships. Overall this album will catapult him to the top of the Indie Hip Hop scene and if nothing else prove that East Coast Hip Hop is not dead as long as he is making music.
