Last month marked the 2016 Trinidad Carnival celebration and this year’s 2016 Soca Monarch, Aaron “Voice” St. Louis was the youngest winner in history. This 23 year old breakout artiste captured the title with his fun, positive, energetic song “Cheers to Life”. The humility of St. Louis was well on display as his opening video featured a video a Bob Marley interview where he clears up the misconception that riches are money. He also had the words winner repeatedly flashing on the screen during his performance reminding people that no matter the results of the competition he was a winner just by waking up another day to do what he loves. St. Louis’s performance was so powerful that he left the crowd singing his lyrics after the performance while they waited for the next artiste to arrive. Check out the winning tune below.
